Copyright Policy

Syntelium B.V., located in Antwerp, Belgium, complies with the copyright notice-and-takedown procedures required under:

  • EU Copyright Law
  • EU e-Commerce Directive 2000/31/EC
  • Belgian Code of Economic Law
  • Belgian Copyright Law

Under EU law, Storyon is not liable for user-generated content as long as we act promptly upon receiving a valid notice. We also recognize that transformative works, parody, pastiche, and quotation may be lawful under EU copyright exceptions.

1. My work was posted on Storyon without permission

1.1. Submit a Copyright Abuse Report (EU Notice)

You may file a copyright report directly through Storyon's Abuse channel. Your report must include:

  • A link to the allegedly infringing content
  • Identification of the original copyrighted work

1.2. Submit a DMCA Notice (Optional)

Storyon accepts DMCA notices as a courtesy to international rights-holders, but DMCA law does not apply in the EU. DMCA notices are treated as formal copyright complaints.

2.1. Requirements of a Valid EU Notice

  • Your full name and contact information
  • Description of the copyrighted work
  • Exact URL(s) of the allegedly infringing content
  • A statement of good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized
  • A statement confirming accuracy of your claim
  • A declaration that your notice will be shared with the uploader

Submitting false or fraudulent claims may violate Belgian and EU law.

3. Copyright Takedown Process (EU)

  1. Review and Action

    Storyon will review the notice and remove or disable access to content when legally required.

  2. Notification to the Uploader

    The uploader will be notified and provided with details of the complaint, with redactions where appropriate.

  3. Counter-Notification

    If the uploader believes the removal is mistaken or the content is lawful, they may submit a Counter-Notification.

  4. Restoration

    If a valid counter-notification is received, Storyon may restore the content unless the complainant initiates legal action in Belgium.

4. If Your Content Was Removed

4.1. Notification

You will receive a removal notice explaining the claim and your rights.

4.2. Your Options

  • Submit a Counter-Notification
  • Choose not to dispute the removal

4.3. Reuploading Prohibited

Reuploading the same content without resolving the complaint may lead to account suspension.

5.1. Requirements of a Valid Counter-Notification

  • Your name, address, and contact details
  • URL(s) of the removed content
  • A good-faith statement that the removal is mistaken
  • A statement consenting to be contacted by the complainant
  • An acknowledgment that the matter may escalate to legal proceedings

6. Repeat Infringers

Consistent with EU safe-harbor requirements, Storyon may suspend or terminate accounts of users repeatedly posting infringing content.

7. Transparency

Storyon may publish redacted versions of copyright notices or counter-notices for transparency unless prohibited by law.
